Scottish Firm Launch Online Local Service Directory and Search Engine

Business Directory Search Screenshot The web desing firm for whom I work recently launched a new online local directory service. I was personally involved in programming of the engine that indexes and searches the database so it is rather exciting to see it implemented on a real live website! It was a great learning experience in data theory and a brilliant insight into how the big Web search engines approach the large volumes of data that they do. In the end we have built a really useful resource and what our users have commented on most is how relevant and easy to use it is. Comparisons are inevitably drawn with the more well know alternatives such as Thompson Local, but the answer is we’re better! The costs are lower, the interface is easier and the results are listed quite simply according to just how close they are to your location. In fact we think the key feature that users will find most innovative (and yet it is so subtle they’ll barely register how natural it is) is the postcode search. Our Charlie likes golf, you see, and Charlie has occassion to be in Linlithgow a few times a year.

Now Charlie, a native of the central belt, came accross our website and immediately thought “I wonder what golfing opportunities my trips to Linlithgow will afford me?”.

“No Trouble,” says our website, “within twenty miles? How about these…”.
